OEM Wheel & Tire Fitments
By taking a deeper look into the factory wheel and tire fitments you’ll be able to better understand what upgrade path to take. On cars in the F8X chassis lineup, there is a little more breathing room thanks to wide fenders. However, some drawbacks include brake clearance depending on the trim and model of the car. If you’re totally new to diameter, width, offset and backspacing, we highly recommend you read our bolt pattern, wheel offset and general wheel fitment resources first.

*Take note that if your car is equipped with the factory BMW M Carbon Ceramic brakes, it will require a minimum 19″ diameter wheel or larger.

Before getting started, it’s important to note the effects of certain wheel setups. Upsizing and downsizing wheels and/or tires can have positive or negative effects on your BMW’s performance. Form
Some BMW M owners are looking to achieve a very specific fitment and stance that may require modifications, such as modifying ride height, fender rolling, or fender pulling. More often than not, these kind of setups will have a negative effect on performance. That said, if dialing in the perfect stance is your only concern, then the performance drawbacks may not matter to you. Basically if you want to dump your F8X on bags with insane camber; go for it. We love all types of fitments!
Form & Function
If you’re goal is to dial in a clean stance and fitment, but still use the car to its full capabilities, then a more modest setup is the way to go. By modest, we mean something more suitable for spirited driving and light track days. However, these kind of fitments may still have some adverse effects, albeit on a much smaller scale.
Function
If sacrificing ride quality and factory performance isn’t something you’re willing to do, then sticking with a more OEM+ wheel setup is a smart choice. With other makes and models, slightly downsizing is usually a viable option. However, because the F80 M3 and F82/F83 M4 were built with a specific purpose in mind, we highly suggest never downsizing. Either stick with OEM diameters and widths, or slightly upsize with more flattering offsets. In general, we recommend a lightweight Flow Forged wheel on most cars as it can improve all of the 5 dynamics listed above, with the addition of gas mileage.
F82/F83/F80 Wheel Fitment: OEM+ / Flush
Because the F8X M3 and M4 are purpose-built track cars, they rolled out of the factory with pretty impressive wheel fitments. But just because BMW’s engineers know a thing or two about building race cars, that doesn’t mean there’s no room for improvement. Below you’ll find our fitment experts’ suggested F80 M3, F82 M4, and F83 M4 wheel setups for those looking to maintain an OEM+ fitment. As always, we’ve listed our suggested offsets, but please keep in mind that going below or above these thresholds doesn’t mean the wheel won’t fit. *All of the wheel fitment suggestions below are using a staggered wheel setup because the M3 and M4 are rear-drive cars and were optimized using staggered fitments.

F82/F83/F80 Wheel Fitment: Aggressive Street & Light Track
The following M3 and M4 wheel fitment suggestions are for enthusiasts who enjoy spirited street driving or weekend track days. These fitments are ideal for those looking for dramatically improved performance. Keep in mind that many of these fitments can be ran on factory suspensions and alignment. However, if you plan on tracking the car at all, we highly recommend dialing in your suspension and alignment to significantly improve handling. You’ll notice we’ve added square fitments into the mix as it can mitigate under-steer in specific scenarios, however it may also compromise rear-end grip in comparison to a staggered configuration.

F82/F83/F80 Wheel Fitment: Track & Race Use
The following wheel fitments are intended for those who plan on tracking their M3 and M4 consistently. Again, these fitments are compatible with OEM suspension and alignment specs, however to maximize performance we highly encourage dialed in suspension, alignment and very specific tire choice. Keep in mind that most of these fitments will require serious negative camber and modifications are almost guaranteed to make these fit. In some rare cases, spacers may be needed depending how aggressive the offset and spoke design of the wheel is.
